			Software Installation Refer to Equipment
Requirements, above, for information on selecting and installing
the computer, magnetometer, and differentially-corrected GPS. Download the latest
MagSurvey installation file from the Ordering Information page of
this web site, then follow the instructions below. INSTALLING
ON WINDOWS 2000, WINDOWS XP, WINDOWS VISTA, Windows 7, WINDOWS 8.1
			or Windows 10: |

		|
 | Normally, MagSurvey will
automatically begin installation after downloading from the web
site.  Follow the installation instructions, using the
default settings presented, and tell Windows that you trust this
program.  MagSurvey needs to be installed and run in the
default subdirectory, C:\MagSurvey\.  This enables the
program to easily locate the support files and the stored
			surveys. |

		|
 | If MagSurvey does not
automatically install, open Windows Explorer and double-click
MagSurveyZip.Exe in your download subdirectory. Note: if the
installation program extracts the files, but fails to completely
install the software, you can go to the Start Menu -> Run, and
			type C:\MagSurvey\install\setup.exe
to complete the installation.  Note that MagSurvey will
not harm your computer -- be persistent, and select "ALLOW"
or "OTHER OPTIONS" as necessary to allow installation of
third-party software such as MagSurvey. |

		|
 | Note
that some versions of Microsoft Windows can, at any time, install
the incorrect software driver for HMI class serial equipment, such
as certain GPS and magnetometer equipment.  This is NOT a
MagSurvey problem -- it can affect all software used with the
equipment.  For an explanation and fix, follow this link:
			WildCursorAndClicks . |

		|
 | If reinstalling MagSurvey,
Microsoft Setup will sometimes display a message that the
MagSurvey.Hlp file is not newer than the existing file -- if this
occurs, select "No", so that the new help file will be
			installed. |

		|
 |

		|
 | MagSurvey will be set up on
			your computer at C:\MagSurvey\MagSurvey.exe
(on some computer configurations, the .exe suffix will not be
displayed by Windows Explorer, and the executable file will be
listed as MagSurvey, Type, Application).  A shortcut to
MagSurvey may be created on the computer screen by right-clicking
MagSurvey.Exe in Windows Explorer, in the C:\MagSurvey
folder. Then drag the MagSurvey(2) shortcut onto the main screen,
where it may be optionally renamed. |

		|
 | Note: when running MagSurvey
for the first time, you may get a path access error message --
simply run the program a second time and it will automatically
build the needed configuration file. |

		|
 | If the displayed fonts are
improper, you will need to go into Windows Control Panel to set
font size to 100% (usually a default). |

		|
 | You may find it beneficial to
auto-hide the horizontal toolbar at the bottom of the Windows
			screen. |

		|
 |

		|
 | An operator’s manual
may be viewed or printed from MagSurvey.Doc using a word
processor, or from MagSurvey.Hlp using Windows' built-in help
capabilities.  An on-screen manual is also available under
Help -> MagSurvey Manual at the top of the screen, and it may
be opened in another window (Note that Vista and Windows-7 do not
support the legacy Microsoft Windows .Hlp functions from within
MagSurvey until you download the Microsoft fix that is indicated
when attempting to use that function). |
